「THE WORLD ENGINE」WORLDSKILLS MUSEUM

Summary 

The WorldSkills Museum is the first official museum recognized by the global organization WorldSkills. The museum employs innovative methods and techniques of experiential design to cultivate a place to increase skills awareness among young people, develop international skills standards, share research results, exchange best practices, and promote the value of skills for economic growth and personal success.
 
The predecessor of the World Skills Museum Yong’an Warehouse was built in 1921, situated on the bank of the Huangpu River, it is the only characteristic historical industrial building left from the 1920s in Shanghai.  The World Engine Installation locates at the atrium where the visits begin, the shape, material and mechanical design of the installation are intended to respect the original building and present a dedicated installation belong to the space. The mechanical transmission of the historical significance of the building itself during the industrial revolution is used, and the significance of the WorldSkills is conveyed through the precise cooperation of the metal engine in transmission.
 
The world is an exquisite system, assembled by walks of life with diverse ethnicity and culture. Skilled citizens work and collaborate directly and indirectly, forming a grand and delicated system that moterizes the world’s technological progress.
 
Participants from all 63 skilled background join the WorldSkill’s International Competition. After the competition and communication exchange, they return to their own skilled profession in the world system.
